• Speaking at an event in Taichung, President Lai Ching-te said one of his dreams is to move the Legislative Yuan and the Executive Yuan to Taichung as a way of balancing development between the north and the south.
• Ho Hsin-chun, the Democratic Progressive Party's candidate for Taichung mayor, voiced her support and named the Legislative Yuan's Taichung office, Chenggongling and the high-speed rail special district as suitable locations.
• Ho said the president had not consulted her beforehand, and that any relocation would still require social consensus and public discussion.
• Taichung's convenient north-south transport links and central location are the main reasons the idea is viewed favourably.

Outlook: no concrete relocation plan is expected in the short term, and the issue is likely to become one of the talking points in the Taichung mayoral race.
