Ko Wen-je says Chiang Wan-an faces no pressure because Puma Shen is too weak; DPP hits back at Huang Kuo-chang

Cracks have appeared in blue-white cooperation in the Taipei mayoral race, with the white camp being sidelined in Taipei — bad news for the Taiwan People's Party.

  • Chiang Wan-an attended only a joint campaign rally to stump for the white camp's city council candidates, which the TPP internally regards as a "handout."
  • Ko Wen-je laid the blame on the Democratic Progressive Party, saying that nominating Puma Shen as its candidate was too weak a move, which is why Chiang Wan-an faces no pressure.
  • DPP city councillor Chien Shu-pei fired back, saying the problem lies with Huang Kuo-chang having turned the TPP into a "tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny blue" party with support down to just 6 percent, which is why it gets treated as a junior partner.
  • The blue camp is not speaking with one voice: Lee Ming-hsien is pushing to maximise blue-white vote allocation and wants Puma Shen to spend less time travelling to the United States and Japan and more time working the grassroots, while Chan Wei-yuan says Puma Shen has the entire DPP's resources behind him and should not be underestimated.

Outlook: Vote allocation and integration between the blue and white camps in Taipei will remain a tug-of-war, and the pressure on the TPP from KMT vote-siphoning in the city council race will only grow.
