Aug 23, 2026

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an travelled to Chiayi City to campaign for Chang Chi-kai, the Taiwan People's Party candidate for mayor, in a public display of blue-white cooperation in a local election race.

  • Chiang Wan-an attended the handover ceremony for the chair of the KMT's Chiayi City Women's Association and the inaugural meeting of Chang Chi-kai's general women's support group, courting votes from women's organisations.
  • He called for a "Taipei-Chiayi home run," expressing hope that women in Chiayi would also help him rally votes among their relatives and friends in Taipei, with the two cities' campaigns boosting each other.
  • Chiang Wan-an praised Chang Chi-kai's long-standing attention to financial and economic affairs in the Legislative Yuan and his familiarity with budgets, and endorsed his policy proposal of fully subsidising health insurance premiums for those aged 65 and over.
  • Incumbent Chiayi City Mayor Huang Min-hui also appeared alongside them, and Chiang Wan-an described Chang Chi-kai as the best successor to carry on the city's administration.
  • Asked about South Korean cheerleader Lee Da-hye coming under online attack for appearing in a video with him, Chiang Wan-an said he did not want to see anyone treated irrationally because of differing political positions.

Outlook: Blue-white cooperation at the local level is likely to keep gaining momentum, with both sides treating Chiayi City as a bellwether for whether the cooperation model can succeed.
