Zhongli Police "Thunder Crackdown" Operation Nets 105 Cases and 93 People in One Week
Police in Taoyuan's Zhongli District have launched large-scale expanded spot checks, uncovering more than a hundred criminal cases within a week — good news for public safety, and pressure on drunk drivers, drug-impaired drivers and fraud rings.
- The Zhongli Precinct stepped up road checks on major roads and public-safety hotspots within its jurisdiction, netting 105 cases and 93 people in one week.
- Fraud accounted for the largest share of cases, followed by drug offences, along with drink driving, drug-impaired driving, theft and the arrest of wanted fugitives.
- A 45-year-old man tried to pull into a petrol station to evade a road check and was found on the spot to be a wanted theft suspect, and was arrested.
- The operation was carried out in two stages: first setting up road checkpoints to catch drink drivers and noisy vehicles, then conducting spot checks at 16 venues including KTVs, bars and video arcades.
- Police have called for greater use of the AI patrol system to identify licence plates, avoiding rash vehicle pursuits that could harm bystanders.
Outlook: Combating fraud and cracking down on drug-impaired driving remain police priorities in the near term, and similar large-scale spot checks are expected to continue.
