A man who snatched a bag in Taoyuan two years ago confessed only after running into his victim behind bars — an odd bit of luck for prosecutors, bad luck for him.

• In June 2023 a 32-year-old man on a motorbike grabbed a bag from a man walking along a road in Yangmei, getting away with NT$700.
• The victim never reported it, figuring the loss was too small to bother with.
• This March both men ended up serving time in Taoyuan Prison, where the victim recognized his robber.
• After the victim talked to him about it, the man filed a confession with prosecutors, exposing a crime nobody was investigating.

Outlook: Prosecutors have asked the Taoyuan District Court for a summary judgment, so a quick sentence is likely.
