Taipei reservoir chief fired over alleged misuse of public funds

Aug 21, 2026

Taipei's mayor moved fast to remove a senior water official accused of taking public money, an embarrassing corruption case for the city government.

  • Lin Yu-yi, head of Taipei's Feitsui Reservoir Administration, is accused of misusing public funds and was released on bail with a travel ban.
  • Anti-corruption investigators searched and questioned him before prosecutors set the bail terms.
  • Mayor Chiang Wan-an says he ordered a fast, strict investigation and fired Lin as soon as the first findings came in.
  • Chiang also defended the city's flood response after heavy rain overwhelmed drainage limits in several districts, saying pumps and extra crews were in place beforehand.
  • On politics, Chiang backed continued KMT cooperation with the Taiwan People's Party and plans to campaign for allied candidates in Chiayi.

Outlook: Prosecutors will keep building the case against Lin while the mayor tries to keep the scandal from denting the KMT's local election push.
