Li Si-chuan pushes north-south extension of Zhonghe-Xinlu Line and urban renewal policy

Aug 22, 2026

Li Si-chuan, the Kuomintang's candidate for New Taipei mayor, toured three local events in Zhonghe, campaigning on MRT extensions and the redevelopment of ageing housing — good news for residents of the Shuanghe area.

  • He pledged that, if elected, he would push for a north-south extension of the MRT's Zhonghe-Xinlu Line, connecting northward to the Taipei Dome and Songshan Airport and southward to Shisizhang in Xindian.
  • He said that during his time at the Taipei City Government he had already reached a consensus with Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, and that in future Taipei and New Taipei would treat the line as a priority rail project.
  • Another major policy plank is "Urban Renewal 5 Powers," aimed at speeding up the redevelopment of Zhonghe's older communities and improving housing safety.
  • Chairpersons of local community development associations, clan associations and veterans' associations voiced their support at the events, and several New Taipei city councillors and borough chiefs also attended.

Outlook: With the year-end election entering the grassroots canvassing stage, transport and urban renewal will be the central themes of Li Si-chuan's bid for votes in Shuanghe.
