Li Si-chuan Admits Misremembering Bus Route 307, Proposes Joint Taipei–New Taipei Bus Governance

Aug 21, 2026

KMT New Taipei mayoral candidate Li Si-chuan apologised for getting a bus route wrong and rode the line himself to see the situation first-hand, using the moment to push the issue of cross-city bus scheduling onto the campaign agenda.

  • Li Si-chuan misstated the route of the 307 bus at the Legislative Yuan; the next day he said outright that he had misremembered it, admitted the error and would not dodge it, and that same afternoon went out and rode the route himself.
  • The episode began when a legislator asked how scheduling should work when three buses arrive at once during peak hours, carrying passengers out of Taipei, only for the return trip to often run empty.
  • Changing cross-city bus routes and stops requires the sign-off of the other city's transport bureau, and with Zhonghe generating a particularly heavy commuter flow, being caught in the middle makes adjustments difficult.
  • He argues that scheduling should instead be unified under the Keelung–Taipei–New Taipei–Taoyuan platform, with joint governance between the two Taipei cities, to reduce the friction of each side managing its own segment.
  • The visit also served to court votes from KMT and TPP legislators, seeking support for his rail construction and urban renewal platform, since these involve central government funding and legislative amendments.

Outlook: Cross-city bus scheduling and joint Taipei–New Taipei governance look set to become a recurring line of attack and defence in the New Taipei mayoral race, with no substantive institutional change likely in the short term.
