Ko Wen-je Slams Puma Shen as "Too Weak"; Lee Ming-hsien Urges More Grassroots Campaigning

Aug 22, 2026

With 100 days left in the countdown to the Taipei mayoral election, the division of labour within the blue-white camp is coming into view, creating negative pressure on Democratic Progressive Party candidate Puma Shen.

  • Ko Wen-je said that if anyone is to blame, it is the DPP for sending Puma Shen out to run for Taipei mayor: "He is too weak — Chiang Wan-an is under no pressure."
  • Chiang Wan-an is attending only joint campaign rallies and will not appear individually for Taiwan People's Party city council candidates, leaving the white camp's grassroots feeling they are being given "handouts".
  • Kuomintang councillor Lee Ming-hsien told Puma Shen to "be more serious", questioning whether he has finished visiting all 456 of Taipei's boroughs instead of dashing off to the United States one moment and Japan the next.
  • The blue-white goal is to maximise seats, using vote allocation to defuse competition within the same districts.

Outlook: Blue-white cooperation will centre on joint rallies and vote allocation. Chiang Wan-an faces little pressure in the race, while Puma Shen needs to step up his grassroots work.
