KMT's Teng Kai-hsun unveils billboard in Banqiao featuring Eric Chu, Hou Yu-ih and Lee Si-chuan together

As the New Taipei City councillor election campaign gets under way, a KMT newcomer is playing the "continuity of development" card — a boost for the blue camp's electoral prospects and a source of pressure on the DPP's seats in Banqiao.

  • Teng Kai-hsun, a KMT candidate for city councillor in Banqiao, has put up a billboard featuring Eric Chu, Hou Yu-ih and mayoral candidate Lee Si-chuan together.
  • The central appeal is the "strongest New Taipei team," stressing that the governing experience running from Eric Chu to Hou Yu-ih should be passed on.
  • The policy record centres on rail construction, advancing from the "Three Rings, Three Lines" to the "Four Rings, Eight Lines," along with public childcare centres and civil sports centres.
  • It also cites Hou Yu-ih's handling of the Wugu garbage mountain and the Wenzikeng land readjustment in Xinzhuang and Taishan during his term as evidence of the blue camp's governing competence.
  • His personal platform focuses on traffic congestion in Banqiao, insufficient parking spaces, the pedestrian environment, urban renewal of dangerous and ageing buildings, and childcare and family formation for young people.

Outlook: the "development card" in the mayoral race is expected to become a shared campaign theme for New Taipei's grassroots councillor candidates.
