Keelung motorcyclist who hit a pedestrian and fled faces fines and licence suspension
A hit-and-run on a Keelung crosswalk has led to criminal referral and heavy penalties, a rare setback in a city that has otherwise cut pedestrian accidents sharply this year.
- A motorcyclist turning onto Anyi Road failed to slow down, struck a pedestrian on a marked crosswalk, injured his leg, and sped off.
- Police tracked the rider through junction cameras, summoned him, and referred him to prosecutors for negligent injury and fleeing the scene.
- He faces a fine of up to NT$36,000 and loss of his licence for one to two years.
- Keelung's pedestrian accidents are down 53% from a year earlier, with 70 cases so far this year.
- The city also jumped 12 places nationally in pedestrian deaths and injuries per 100,000 people.
Outlook: Keelung says it will keep pushing road redesign, enforcement, and public campaigns to hold pedestrian accidents at these lower levels.
