Honolulu unveils new Purple Heart license plate design
Hawaii's Purple Heart specialty license plate has been redesigned for the first time in 35 years, a small but meaningful win for combat-wounded veterans.
- The new plate shows a bigger Purple Heart medal alongside the words "combat wounded."
- Eligible veterans can apply for one at any satellite city hall in Honolulu.
- The city also put up new Purple Heart markers as part of the same tribute to World War II veterans.
- It is the first change to the plate's look in 35 years.
Outlook: Expect the new plates to start appearing on Honolulu roads as veterans apply through city offices.
