Heavy rain floods Tainan dog shelter, 110 stray dogs rescued
Sudden downpours in Tainan's Rende district flooded Taiwan's first public stray-dog sanctuary, but all 110 dogs were pulled out safely.
- Nearly 94 millimeters of rain fell in three hours, leaving water 40 centimeters deep across the shelter grounds.
- The site sits next to a river beside a highway ramp, and the water rose fast once the river swelled.
- Eight staff carried out small and old dogs first, moving them to a temple on higher ground; some dogs had climbed onto rooftops to escape.
- Bigger dogs were driven to another shelter, while frail and elderly ones stayed at the temple until the grounds dry out.
Outlook: Where the dogs stay next will depend on the weather and how quickly the flooded grounds can be cleaned up.
