Former Taiwan legislative vice speaker Jao Yung-ching dies at 93
Taiwan's opposition Kuomintang is mourning the death of Jao Yung-ching, a veteran lawmaker who helped shape the island's parliament during its democratic transition.
- Jao died Thursday night at his family home in Taitung County's Beinan Township at 93.
- His daughter, Taitung County Magistrate Yao Ching-ling, said he passed away peacefully.
- He spent decades in politics as a legislator, deputy speaker of the Legislative Yuan, senior adviser to the president, and head of the World League for Freedom and Democracy.
- KMT chair Cheng Li-wun called the family to offer condolences and plans to travel to Taitung for the memorial.
