Deadly house fire in Kaohsiung's Nanzi district kills two brothers
A fast-moving fire tore through a four-story home in Kaohsiung on Friday night, killing two brothers in their twenties.
- Flames broke out around 8pm in a townhouse on Xiuqun Road, with the worst burning on the third and fourth floors.
- The 24-year-old older brother was pushed by thick smoke to a barred third-floor window, shouted to neighbors that his brother was still inside, then fell to the ground and died despite being rushed to hospital.
- Firefighters found the 22-year-old younger brother unconscious on the stairs between the second and third floors with burns to his face and chest; he did not survive.
- The building had an added metal-sheet structure on the roof, and furniture and clutter on three floors fed the blaze.
Outlook: Investigators are still working to pin down exactly where the fire started.
