Taiwan extends entry limits for DRC residents over Ebola

Aug 21, 2026

Taiwan is keeping its border closed to people from the Democratic Republic of Congo for another three months, bad news for DRC travelers but aimed at keeping Ebola out.

  • The ban runs until late November and blocks entry even for people who already hold valid visas, with no new visas being issued.
  • A few groups are still let in: degree students, diplomats, foreign spouses and children of Taiwanese citizens, and emergency or humanitarian cases.
  • The DRC outbreak is the fastest-spreading in the country's history, with more than 5,000 cases and roughly half of those infected dying.
  • Uganda, hit by the same outbreak, has had no new cases since June and is close to being declared clear.

Outlook: Taiwan plans to drop its restrictions on Ugandan residents in late August if no new cases appear, while the DRC ban stays in place.
