Taipei councilors push for water, showers and changing rooms at riverside parks
Taipei's riverside parks may get better facilities for people who exercise there, a small win for runners, cyclists and paddlers who now have nowhere to clean up.
- City councilors want drinking water stations, showers and changing rooms added along the riverside parks.
- Of the city's 29 riverside parks, only a handful offer anywhere to rinse off after a workout.
- The water agency says pipes are hard to run past the flood walls, and water sitting too long in long pipes could be unsafe to drink.
- Showers already exist at four spots, including Bailing and Yingxing, maintained by sports groups that also handle flood evacuations.
- The push follows a mayoral campaign proposal for "sports stations" with lockers and washrooms near metro stops, trailheads and parks.
Outlook: The water and sports departments will survey the parks together and decide where more facilities can realistically be added.
