Staged-fall scam ring: Changhua woman detained over 12 victims
A woman in Changhua County, Taiwan has been jailed pending trial for faking traffic bumps and falls to squeeze money out of strangers, with at least 12 known victims.
- She deliberately bumped into people on the street, then pretended to fall and demanded medical costs and lost wages.
- Each case brought in a few thousand Taiwan dollars, and on her busiest day she pulled it off four times.
- Victims say she threatened to sue anyone who refused to pay, and one shopper was pressed for four days of "lost work" money.
- Police tracked her through security camera footage across Yuanlin and Dacun, and a court approved detention because she was likely to keep offending.
- A local councilor says she also collected money in the name of a temple for fake rituals, and pushed to have warning photos of her taken off Facebook.
Outlook: Investigators expect more victims to come forward, so the case count and the total taken are likely to rise.
