Shen Po-yang criticises breaks in Taipei policy; Chiang Wan-an: city governance is a relay race
With the Taipei mayoral race entering its final stretch, blue-white cooperation and the administration's record have become the focus of attack and defence — a source of pressure for incumbent Chiang Wan-an and an opportunity for his challengers.
- DPP candidate Shen Po-yang has used policies from Ko Wen-je's tenure to attack Chiang Wan-an, saying that measures such as traffic improvements and food safety tracking were all cut short under the current city government.
- Chiang Wan-an responded that city governance is a relay race, stressing that Taipei's Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize was the joint achievement of successive mayors and their teams, Ko Wen-je included.
- Discord has emerged in blue-white cooperation, with the KMT's Taipei branch deciding that Chiang Wan-an will not appear at individual campaign events for TPP candidates and will take part only in joint rallies; TPP councillors are reported to feel they are being treated as charity cases.
- Chiang Wan-an has invoked the idea of "brothers climbing the mountain," with the goal of maximising the combined blue-white seat count, but said little when pressed on the details of vote allocation.
Outlook: With the nine-in-one elections approaching, how the blue and white camps integrate their seats and allocate votes will be the biggest variable in the Taipei race.
