Puma Shen previews Neihu transport platform: Beitou-Shilin Science Park and Neihu Technology Park the focus
As the Taipei mayoral race moves into the phase of local street canvassing, Neihu's traffic congestion has become the signature issue for Democratic Progressive Party candidate Puma Shen — good news for Neihu residents long stuck in traffic.
- Shen said he will hold a policy presentation on transport, centred on east-west traffic between the two major technology parks, the Beitou-Shilin Science Park and the Neihu Technology Park.
- Beyond the traffic-diversion measures and infrastructure works he has mentioned previously, he will also put forward a "last mile" plan, focused on the stretch from Songshan to Neihu.
- While canvassing at Bihu Park, he was warmly surrounded by residents out for their morning exercise, some of whom called him "the new mayor" outright.
- The DPP is aiming to win all four council seats in the Nangang-Neihu constituency, and is working with local councillors to gather public opinion for use as input on city policy.
- Asked about the Kuomintang's citywide vote-allocation strategy in Taipei, Shen played the question down, saying his opponents' vote allocation was a matter internal to their party.
Looking ahead: the transport policy presentation will be Shen's main move going forward, with election day set for 28 November.
