Li Si-chuan campaigns in Sanchong and Yingge, promoting an upgraded senior citizens' card and MRT policy pledges
Kuomintang New Taipei City mayoral candidate Li Si-chuan has stepped up his grassroots campaigning, offering benefits for the elderly and commuters and signalling that he is making welfare and transport the central themes of his campaign.
- On the 21st, Li visited a communal dining and environmental event in Sanchong's Wuhua Village, moving from table to table to talk with residents, who responded enthusiastically.
- His main pitch is an "upgraded senior citizens' card," converting some of the card's points into EasyCard credit so that older residents can spend it at convenience stores, supermarkets and pharmacies, and also put it toward medical costs.
- On transport, he proposed a "Dahan River MRT trunk line" linking Sanchong, Xinzhuang, Tucheng and other areas, with the aim of creating a 30-minute living circle across Taipei and New Taipei.
- He also recalled his experience dealing with flooding in Sanchong during his earlier tenure as director of the Taipei County Public Works Bureau, stressing that he would continue to push forward local infrastructure projects.
- His itinerary also included attending a prayer ceremony at Sanhu Temple in Yingge, drawing closer to the local temple network.
Outlook: With the campaign heating up, Li Si-chuan is expected to continue centring his appeal on welfare for the elderly and rail construction as he builds support at the grassroots level in New Taipei.
