Ko Wen-je braves the rain to canvass with Bade District councillor candidate Lin Yen-liang
Taiwan People's Party founding chairman Ko Wen-je has returned to the streets to campaign for candidates, a sign that the party is warming up for local elections in Taoyuan and a shot in the arm for first-time candidates such as Lin Yen-liang.
- In the early evening, Ko Wen-je joined city councillor candidate Lin Yen-liang at a street corner in Taoyuan's Bade District, waving to passers-by in the rain to canvass for votes.
- A rush-hour canvassing session originally planned for the intersection by Bade Zhidi Plaza was cancelled because of heavy rain, and the pair moved to Lin's service office to meet supporters instead.
- At the service office, the two analysed the state of the councillor race in Bade District, including past voting patterns and the distribution of support among the parties.
- The New Power Party has yet to have anyone declare a candidacy in Bade, and Ko Wen-je suggested differentiating their campaign approach.
- With the rain and fading light, most scooter riders sped past, though some members of the public still recognised Ko Wen-je and greeted him in return.
Outlook: The Taiwan People's Party is expected to step up its grassroots organising in Taoyuan, and Ko Wen-je is likely to make personal campaign appearances more frequently as the election draws nearer.
