Kaohsiung's Aozidi "Parking 35" garage set to open in November
A long-delayed public-private parking and retail complex in northern Kaohsiung is close to finished, which is good news for drivers and local businesses in a crowded district.
- The multi-story garage at the Aozidi site is expected to open in November after breaking ground in early 2021.
- It will add 600 car spaces, 1,100 scooter spaces, and 40 bike spaces in an area where parking has been scarce.
- Delays came from labor shortages, material shortages, and design changes during construction.
- A private developer put more than NT$3 billion into the project under a build-operate-transfer deal, sharing the cost with the city.
- The finished building runs eight floors above ground and four below, mixing shops, offices, and government service counters into what the city is pitching as a new landmark for the Nong-16 area.
Outlook: If the November target holds, the complex should ease parking pressure around Aozidi Forest Park and draw more commercial activity to northern Kaohsiung.
