Hsinchu City's fifth municipal senior high school, "Chien Hua Senior High School," opens its preparatory office, to enrol 176 first-year students in the 2027 academic year

Aug 21, 2026

Hsinchu City is converting Chien Hua Junior High School into a complete secondary school that will begin admitting senior high school students next year — good news for local families facing a peak in enrolment demand.

  • The Chien Hua Senior High School preparatory office was inaugurated today, making it Hsinchu City's fifth municipal senior high school. Lin Yen-ling, principal of Hsin Ko Junior High School, will serve concurrently as director of the preparatory office.
  • The first intake is planned at five classes totalling 176 students, comprising four general-track classes plus one Waldorf experimental education class.
  • The move responds to a peak in senior high school enrolment over the next two years, with the Greater Hsinchu area short of senior high school places.
  • From the 2024 to the 2027 academic years, the city government has added a cumulative 32 classes and more than 1,010 places, and has invested over NT$200 million in renovating school buildings, including the restoration of historic structures.

Outlook: The conversion has been approved for record by the Ministry of Education. The next step is to tender the school building restoration works, with preparations to be completed before the first intake next year.
