A house fire in Kaohsiung killed one person and left another fighting for their life after residents jumped from an upper floor to escape the flames.

• Fire broke out around 8pm on Xiuqun Road in the Nanzi district, filling the building with thick smoke.
• One resident, trapped by the flames, jumped from a height and hit the ground with no pulse or breathing.
• Two brothers were caught in the fire — one died, the other is in critical condition.
• Dozens of firefighters from several units put the fire out by 9:27pm, and police sealed off the surrounding streets.

Outlook: The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
