Chiayi County police officer charged with faking traffic tickets, released on bail

Aug 21, 2026

A police officer in Chiayi County has been accused of writing fake traffic tickets in the names of his own family and friends to pad his enforcement numbers, and six people are now out on bail.

  • The officer, based at a police station in Puzi, allegedly issued bogus tickets in April 2023 for failing to yield to pedestrians while riding a scooter.
  • He is suspected of paying the fines himself, purely to boost his traffic enforcement record.
  • Prosecutors sent investigators to search his home and his station, and questioned him along with his wife, sister, and friends.
  • He was released on bail of NT$300,000; the others posted NT$50,000 to NT$100,000 each.
  • He had since been accepted into Taiwan's Central Police University and is currently in training there.

Outlook: Prosecutors are expected to press forgery charges, and the case will likely renew scrutiny of performance quotas inside Taiwan's police force.
