Amcad Biomed's Overnight-Free Sleep Testing Study Published in International Journal
Taiwanese medical device company Amcad Biomed (4188) announced the results of a sleep testing study conducted in collaboration with National Taiwan University Hospital, and its share price hit the daily limit up that same day — good news for shareholders.
- The two-year study, which enrolled more than a thousand participants, was published in an international respiratory medicine journal, and the market bought in immediately.
- On the news, Amcad's share price gapped up to the limit up, and shortly after the open there was a large queue of buy orders waiting while almost no one was willing to sell.
- The study centres on a testing method that does not require spending a night in hospital: ultrasound scanning of the upper airway, interpreted by AI, can assess risk in ten minutes.
- Among those the system flagged as high risk, the vast majority did in fact have sleep apnoea when subsequently examined at a sleep centre.
- Sleep apnoea is fairly common among adults, but 90% of those affected have never been diagnosed — precisely the market the company is aiming at.
Outlook: The device has already obtained marketing approval in the United States, the European Union and Taiwan. The key question now is whether it can genuinely break into health-screening channels and turn the published findings into revenue.
