Taiwan startup hub TTA may move to Taipei's Beitou-Shilin tech park
Taiwan's government is studying a plan to move its main startup hub to a new Taipei tech district, a possible win for the area's push to become an AI center.
- Premier Cho Jung-tai ordered the National Science and Technology Council to formally study moving the Taiwan Tech Arena startup base to the Beitou-Shilin tech park.
- The idea came from DPP Taipei mayoral candidate Puma Shen and lawmaker Wu Si-yao during a visit to the current site near the Taipei Arena.
- Taipei's city government wants to turn Beitou-Shilin into an AI innovation hub, helped by Nvidia choosing the area for its overseas headquarters.
- The city says it is linking Nangang, Neihu and Beitou-Shilin into one tech corridor to pull in suppliers, researchers and startups.
- Taipei has been funding startups since 2023 through grants, a new landing pad for foreign startups, and trade missions to Thailand, Japan and South Korea.
Outlook: The council's study and talks with the Taipei city government will decide whether the move happens, with the AI cluster around Nvidia's new site the main draw.
