Taipei mayor Chiang Wan-an offers new cash payments for new mothers and egg freezing

Aug 19, 2026

Taipei is rolling out new cash handouts for new mothers and women freezing their eggs, good news for young families in the city and a clear play for women's votes ahead of the year-end election.

  • Every new mother in Taipei will get a NT$30,000 postpartum meal subsidy starting in January, with no income limit.
  • Subsidies for medically necessary egg freezing will widen beyond cancer patients and rise to as much as NT$72,000, including four years of storage fees.
  • The two programs cost the city about NT$367 million a year and should reach 11,000 mothers.
  • More perks are stacking up: free babysitting vouchers, bigger preschool subsidies, a larger taxi allowance for pregnant women, and 20% of social housing reserved for newlyweds and families with kids.
  • Property and land tax breaks for young families are also planned, but they wait on national legislation first.

Outlook: Expect more family-focused spending promises from Taipei and rival candidates as the vote nears in roughly three months.
