Tainan police bust drug-packing base hidden behind a bubble tea shop

Aug 19, 2026

Taiwanese police broke up a drug ring that used a bubble tea shop as a front, a win for law enforcement and a warning about how ordinary storefronts can hide crime.

  • Police in Tainan raided a beverage shop in Madou that was really a base for making and packaging drugs.
  • Four people were arrested, led by a man surnamed Huang who went by the nickname "Brother Cheng."
  • Officers seized methamphetamine, ketamine, raw drug ingredients, and more than 150 packets of drugs disguised as instant coffee sachets.
  • Gun magazines and pistol rounds were also found, and the weapons were sent for forensic testing.
  • Regular customers walked in appearing to buy drinks, so the steady foot traffic made the shop look like a busy business.

Outlook: The ringleader has been ordered held in custody while prosecutors build the case, and police say they are still tracing the supply chain behind the operation.
