Tainan police break up drug ring hiding behind a bubble tea shop
Police in Tainan have dismantled a four-man drug operation that used a bubble tea shop as a front — a win for law enforcement, and a sign of how street drug sales are blending into everyday businesses.
- A juvenile crime unit tracked the ring for months before raiding it at dawn, arresting a 40-year-old ringleader and three others.
- The gang rented a drink shop in Madou and packaged drugs as trendy "coffee sachets," so regulars ordering a drink were really buying drugs.
- Officers seized more than a hundred drug sachets, raw drug material, ketamine, modified pistol magazines, bullets, plus scales and a sealing machine.
- The group had planned a sales push around the Chinese Valentine's Day holiday.
Outlook: The ringleader has been ordered held in custody while prosecutors build the case and the seized guns and ammunition go for forensic testing.
