Taichung's Beishan Coastal Welcome Corridor in Da'an to break ground in mid-September, with Mazu statue unveiling in October
The coastline of Taichung's Da'an District is set for a facelift — good news for both local residents and tourists.
- The Beishan Coastal Welcome Corridor project has been put out to tender, with construction officially beginning in mid-September.
- The Mazu statue at the Da'an Port Mazu Cultural Park is expected to be completed in October, a milestone reached only after the terms of several successive mayors.
- The total budget is NT$7.7 million, with the central government's National Land Management Agency covering 75% and the city government funding the remainder itself.
- The corridor will link up the parks and basketball courts along Beishan Road, connecting Da'an Seaside Park with the Mazu park.
- The existing pavements are too low, landscape lighting blocks the way, and the layout of the roadway and pavement is poor; these issues will all be addressed in this project, which will also add barrier-free spaces and ecological drainage.
Outlook: If the work proceeds on schedule, the Da'an coastal area will gain both a new corridor and a Mazu statue this autumn, giving a boost to local tourism.
