Taichung Adds Extra Domestic Travel Subsidies with Four Major Discount Programmes
Taiwan will begin issuing domestic travel subsidies in September, and Taichung City is adding four further discount programmes on top — good news for travellers looking to save on trips and for local accommodation operators alike.
- The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Tourism Administration is launching its domestic travel subsidy on 1 September, with the Taichung City Government simultaneously adding four programmes of its own.
- More than 70 Taichung accommodation operators have already signed up, including the Howard Prince Hotel, the Windsor Hotel and hot spring hotels in Guguan.
- The additional offerings include a prize draw with rewards such as a year of weekly hotel stays, electric scooters and consumer electronics.
- Guests staying overnight who present proof of accommodation at designated bakery and pastry shops can receive a discount or a buy-one-get-one-free offer.
- In conjunction with the Taichung Shopping Festival, participating accommodation providers will become "5x Bonus Zone" merchants, where spending earns double points.
Outlook: Once the subsidy takes effect in September, more Taichung accommodation operators are expected to follow with additional offers of their own, and autumn room demand is likely to pick up.
