New Taipei's Xidong MRT line reaches 31% completion, targeting 2032 opening
Construction on the new metro line linking Xizhi to Taipei is moving along on schedule, good news for Xizhi commuters who have waited years for rail service.
- The 5.56-kilometer line is 31% complete, with 118 foundation piles and two piers finished at the main work site.
- Six elevated stations and one depot are planned, most of the route in New Taipei with a short stretch inside Taipei City.
- Work is spreading to more sites this fall — fencing, drilling, and pile driving at several locations.
- A precast beam yard starts building its production line in September and begins turning out beams in November.
Outlook: Mayor Hou Yu-ih says the project stays on track for completion and opening in 2032.
