New Taipei's Xidong MRT line reaches 31% completion, targeting 2032 opening

Aug 20, 2026

Construction on the new metro line linking Xizhi to Taipei is moving along on schedule, good news for Xizhi commuters who have waited years for rail service.

  • The 5.56-kilometer line is 31% complete, with 118 foundation piles and two piers finished at the main work site.
  • Six elevated stations and one depot are planned, most of the route in New Taipei with a short stretch inside Taipei City.
  • Work is spreading to more sites this fall — fencing, drilling, and pile driving at several locations.
  • A precast beam yard starts building its production line in September and begins turning out beams in November.

Outlook: Mayor Hou Yu-ih says the project stays on track for completion and opening in 2032.
