Motorcyclist killed in Changhua after hitting curb and being run over by truck

Aug 20, 2026

A deadly crash on a busy Changhua road has renewed pressure on officials to fix sidewalk curbs that riders call a hazard.

  • A 32-year-old man on a scooter apparently clipped a raised sidewalk curb on the Meigang highway in Shengang Township, fell, and was run over by a truck behind him.
  • He was taken to hospital but did not survive.
  • Local councillor Lai Ching-mei said the same stretch has seen repeated crashes, including one involving three siblings.
  • The road carries heavy traffic and almost no pedestrians, yet sidewalks with jutting curbs were built along it — a trap for two-wheelers.
  • Officials are being asked to shave down the protruding curbs and fix poor street lighting.

Outlook: Pressure is building on the county to redesign the curbs and lighting, but nothing has been fixed yet.
