Man hands over ex-boss's house key to settle NT$7,000 debt, letting creditor steal AP watch
A Nantou County debt dispute ended with two men jailed after one paid off a small debt by pointing his creditor at his former boss's home.
- A man who owed NT$7,000 could not pay, so he told the creditor he still had a key to his ex-boss's house.
- He tipped him off about a luxury Audemars Piguet watch and two piggy banks stuffed with coins inside.
- The creditor let himself in with the key and walked off with the watch, the coin banks, and a WiFi router — over NT$700,000 in all.
- The debtor had phoned his old boss beforehand to check he was out, which is what led police to him.
- Nantou District Court convicted both of burglary, handing down sentences of 1 year 4 months and 1 year 2 months.
Outlook: Both men face prison time, and the case is a reminder that old house keys handed to employees can come back to haunt.
