Made in Hawaii Festival opens with Kilo Summit debut
Hawaii's biggest small-business showcase is back for its 32nd year, and it's a boost for local makers who count on the event for a big chunk of annual sales.
- The Made in Hawaii Festival runs through Sunday at the Hawaii Convention Center, with Kilo Summit taking over the third floor.
- Vendors from Maui, Kauai, Oahu and Hawaii Island are gathered in one place, drawing shoppers who fly in from the mainland just for it.
- Chef Sheldon Simeon is joining for the first time, bringing Tin Roof Maui poke bowls to Oahu in a limited pop-up.
- Simeon is also launching a new cookbook, "Ohana Style," at the event.
- A Kilo Summit app is out, letting visitors browse and shop the festival from their phones.
Outlook: Expect long lines and quick sellouts through the weekend, with tickets for opening night already moving fast.
