Hiwin's robotics business to account for over 12% of revenue this year
Taiwanese motion control component maker Hiwin is forecasting double-digit revenue growth this year on the back of surging AI and semiconductor demand — good news for investors and for the robotics supply chain as a whole.
- The global AI and semiconductor boom has flooded Hiwin with ball screw orders, pushing lead times out to six months.
- Robotics-related revenue already accounted for 12% of the total in the first half, and the share is set to keep climbing over the full year.
- Humanoid robots are a new area of focus, with Hiwin supplying key components for hand and leg joints; its planetary roller screws, which offer higher load capacity, are ready for mass production.
- The company has also moved into components for CPO (silicon photonics) equipment and is submitting samples to and in talks with several manufacturers.
- Capacity is so tight that overtime is required to keep up, and Hiwin plans to hire another 100 to 200 workers before year-end, though it has no plans to raise prices for now.
Outlook: Second-half operations are expected to outperform the first half, with demand strongest in Asia and the United States and flat in Europe.
