Hawaii musician launches Creative Natives to help local artists build careers
A Honolulu musician is building a network to teach island artists the business side of their craft, good news for young creatives who have talent but no industry roadmap.
- Ashun Obrero, known as Prada Nash, founded Creative Natives Hawaii, a music and multimedia network run by and for local artists.
- Its "Creative Career Compass" workshop uses a cultural framework drawn from indigenous science to help artists figure out their next career step.
- The first workshop is set for Saturday the 29th at 11 a.m. at Capitol Modern in downtown Honolulu, and it has already sold out.
- The gap being filled: artists focus on passion and skip the business and industry side, leaving them without resources or a network.
Outlook: More workshops and events are planned, along with an online platform with courses and a community space for local creatives.
