Former Keelung hospital doctor gets six years for bribery

Aug 20, 2026

Taiwan's top court has closed the book on a long-running corruption case, upholding a six-year sentence for a doctor who briefly won an acquittal.

  • Lin Chi-min, once a lead doctor and department head at the state-run Keelung hospital, took a NT$250,000 bribe tied to a hospital equipment purchase in 2011.
  • He was originally handed a 14-year total sentence and was already in prison when he won a retrial on part of the case.
  • The retrial court threw out the conviction, saying the businessman's story kept changing and security camera footage did not back up prosecutors.
  • The Supreme Court sent it back, a new hearing restored the guilty verdict at six years, and today's ruling makes it final.

Outlook: Lin returns to serving time, with a three-year loss of civil rights on top of the six-year term.
