Douliu Precinct's Former Station House to Be Repurposed as Yunlin County Chronicles Hall

Aug 19, 2026

Yunlin County plans to convert a century-old police station in downtown Douliu into a "County Chronicles Hall," welcome news for local cultural preservation and the reuse of historic buildings.

  • Douliu Precinct moved into a new building this April, leaving the old station house in the town centre vacant; after renovation, the front block will serve as the Yunlin County Chronicles Hall.
  • Built in 1905, the front block is a government office building with the flavour of a Japanese-era Western-style edifice, and was designated a historic building in 2019.
  • The *Yunlin County Chronicles* comprise nine volumes and thirty-four chapters, running to more than seven million characters; simply putting the books on display would draw no readers, so the hall will present the material through video, photographs and interactive exhibits.
  • The chronicles are due to be launched in October, with curated exhibitions beginning in September at the Cultural Affairs Department's exhibition hall, the Mailiao Social Education Park and the Huwei Library.

Outlook: The exhibitions starting in September and the October launch of the chronicles will be the first step in the old station house's transformation into a cultural venue.
