Chang Gung International Energy wins Japan's JC-STAR Level 1 cybersecurity mark
Taiwan's Chang Gung International Energy has passed Japan's new cybersecurity check for connected devices, a win for the company and for Taiwanese-built battery storage systems trying to sell into Japan.
- The company's products now carry Japan's JC-STAR Level 1 mark, which certifies basic protection against hacking.
- It already had Japanese battery safety certification, so the new mark extends its coverage from safety and quality to digital security.
- Japan set up JC-STAR because power grids, storage systems and energy software are increasingly run by computers and connected to networks.
- CEO Chen Hsin-sheng framed it as a matter of energy sovereignty: what matters is whether the whole system, from cell to software, can be trusted, not just where the battery was assembled.
Outlook: The certification opens the door for the company to bid on Japanese smart-grid and critical infrastructure projects as the country pushes its energy transition.
