3 all-electric cranes arrive at Honolulu Harbor
Three giant electric container cranes have landed in Honolulu, a step forward for Hawaii's shipping capacity and cleaner port operations.
- The cranes were shipped 2,600 miles from Long Beach, California, already assembled and ready to work.
- Each one stands 230 to 250 feet tall — about as high as a 20-story building.
- They are meant for a new cargo terminal at the harbor.
- Running on electricity instead of diesel means less pollution at the waterfront.
Outlook: The cranes still need to be installed and tested before the new terminal can start handling cargo.
