Yeh Chung-lun unveils long-term care platform for Zhunan: extended hours at care stations, accident insurance for volunteers
Miaoli County Councillor Yeh Chung-lun has put forward a long-term care platform ahead of the year-end election for Zhunan Township mayor, offering good news for dual-income families caring for elderly relatives.
- He proposes extending service at community care stations from one or two days a week to five days, and converting them into neighbourhood long-term care stations offering affordable communal meals and classes.
- Villages and boroughs without a station would be helped to set one up, with the aim of ensuring the burden of caring for the elderly no longer falls entirely on families.
- The stations currently rely on volunteers, and cases of "the elderly caring for the elderly" have emerged, so accident insurance would be provided for volunteers to attract younger people to join.
- Community squares and sports facilities would undergo a full review, focusing on levelling surfaces and installing night-time lighting, with accessible toilets and rain shelters to be considered thereafter.
Outlook: These proposals can only be implemented once the results of the year-end Zhunan Township mayoral election are known.
