A late-night argument over a drinking straw ended with a woman repeatedly driving a small truck into a betel nut shop in Taoyuan, leaving the owner with heavy losses.

• A 48-year-old woman bought betel nuts and a drink, then lost her temper when the shop had no straws to give her.
• She smashed the doors and windows, hit a shop worker, then drove her truck into the storefront again and again.
• Damage to the shop and its equipment runs to at least NT$500,000.
• She tried to speed away when police arrived but was stopped about 100 metres down the road.
• Police say she was in an unstable mental state; she was sent to hospital and then handed to prosecutors on intimidation and public danger charges.

Outlook: The shop owner and worker are not pressing damage charges, but prosecutors are still pursuing the case.
