Vehicle Licence Tax Exemption for People with Disabilities Can Now Be Filed Online in 14 Cities and Counties
Vehicle owners with disabilities in Taiwan can now apply online from home for an exemption from the vehicle licence tax, without having to visit a tax office in person — good news for those with limited mobility.
- People with disabilities are exempt from vehicle licence tax under the law, but must reapply after moving house.
- Previously, applicants had to prepare paper documents themselves, including household registration, disability and vehicle registration certificates, and make a trip to the tax office in person.
- Now, through the Ministry of Digital Affairs' MyData platform, the system automatically retrieves these records once the applicant completes identity verification and gives consent, allowing the entire process to be completed online.
- Fourteen cities and counties, including Keelung, Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung, have completed the system integration, and eligible applicants there can apply directly online.
Outlook: The Ministry of Digital Affairs plans to continue working with central and local agencies to move more public services online, and the remaining cities and counties are expected to join in stages.
