Two killed in three-vehicle crash on Taiwan's National Freeway No. 1
A chain-reaction crash in Miaoli County killed two people and injured four, a grim reminder of how dangerous it is to step out of a car on a busy freeway.
- A van heading to Taoyuan airport rear-ended a Tesla in the northbound lanes of the Sanyi section.
- The two drivers got out and stood between their cars to talk about the damage.
- Another car then plowed into the van, which struck both drivers and the Tesla.
- The van driver and a 62-year-old Philippine woman riding as a passenger were killed; the Tesla driver survived but is in a coma.
- Three others were hurt but are stable.
Outlook: Police are still investigating the cause, and the case is likely to renew warnings against leaving your vehicle after a freeway collision.
