Taoyuan social housing passes 10,000 units with two new contracts awarded

Aug 19, 2026

Taoyuan has crossed the 10,000-unit mark for social housing under construction, good news for renters and young families priced out of the private market.

  • Two new projects — 970 units in Dayuan and 121 units in Guanyin — pushed the city's total to 10,054 units.
  • Mayor Chang San-cheng says all 10,000 units should be built and ready to live in by 2030, with three years still to go.
  • New buildings are being designed around ponds, green space, libraries, parking and playgrounds to shake off the old reputation that social housing is cheap and poorly built.
  • The Dayuan site sits in the aerospace city zone near a future metro station and highway link, and adds childcare and day care for disabled residents plus shops on the ground floor.
  • Central government housing policy appears to be shifting, but the city says it will not slow down, and its own affordable housing ordinance is now awaiting central review.

Outlook: More contracts are expected to be awarded as the city pushes toward the 2030 move-in target, with the affordable housing ordinance the next thing to watch.
