Taoyuan Metro Brown Line signs electrical and mechanical contract, targeting 2032 opening
Taoyuan is pushing ahead with a new metro line that will cut the trip to New Taipei to under 20 minutes, good news for commuters and for the contractors winning the work.
- The Brown Line signed its main electrical and mechanical contract and is set to open in 2032.
- It will link Taoyuan's rail and metro stations with two New Taipei lines, making the ride there about 18 minutes.
- Singapore Technologies Electronics and Korea's Hyundai Rotem won the job, covering 15 trains, track, power, signalling, fare gates and platform doors.
- The line will run fully driverless and share depot facilities with the existing Green Line to save on land and building costs.
- Tree moving, walkway levelling and bridge demolition have already started to limit disruption later.
Outlook: Early groundwork continues while the winning firms begin building the trains and systems, with the line still years from carrying passengers.
