Taoyuan drunk-driving offender's account seized over unpaid fines
A Taoyuan man who dodged NT$260,000 in traffic fines for years finally got caught when money landed in his bank account — bad news for anyone hoping to wait out enforcement.
- The 40-year-old racked up NT$210,000 in penalties for three drunk-driving offenses in ten years, plus unpaid parking and unlicensed-driving fines.
- He had no property and empty accounts, so enforcement officers came up dry for over a year after the case was referred in 2024.
- In August, officers spotted a deposit and froze it immediately, pulling out more than NT$10,000.
- He then called to negotiate, saying the account was for insurance payments, and agreed to pay NT$35,000 a month.
- He admitted to a long-running drinking problem and accepted a referral to alcohol treatment.
Outlook: Enforcement authorities are warning that traffic debts do not expire, and accounts stay under watch until the balance is paid.
